چکیده

INTRODUCTION The complex hemodynamics of the left ventricle outflow tract (LVOT) combined with the complex geometry of the ascending aorta (AA) produce a non-uniform shear stress distribution on the AA wall [1]. Endothelial cells are known to be sensitive to shear stress and can lead to vascular remodeling. We hypothesize that a non-uniform morphological adaptation occurs in the AA tissue leading to the change of the local mechanical properties. It is known that AA’s wall is composed of passive (elastin & collagen) and active elements (vascular smooth muscles cells, VSMCs). No data currently exists about local active mechanical properties assessment under biaxial testing. We therefore evaluated both the local passive and active mechanical properties of pig AA.

Regional dependency of the vascular smooth muscle cell contribution to the mechanical properties of the pig ascending aortic tissue.

BACKGROUND Dilation and dissection of aneurysmal ascending aortic tissues occur preferentially at the outer curvature of the vessel. In this study we hypothesize that the density and contractile properties of the vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) of the pig ascending aorta (AA) are heterogeneous and could explain the non-uniform remodeling and weakening of the AA during aneurysm formation. ...

Echocardiographic Assessment of Aortic Elastic Properties with Automated Border Detection in an ICU: In vivo application of the Langewouters’ arctangent model

We studied whether combined pressure and transesophageal ultrasound monitoring is feasible in the ICU-setting for global cardiovascular hemodynamic monitoring (systemic vascular resistance, SVR, and total arterial compliance, CPPM), and direct estimation of local ascending and descending aortic mechanical properties, i.e. distensibility (DC) and compliance (CC) coefficients. Pressure-area data ...

Surface Stress Effect on the Nonlocal Biaxial Buckling and Bending Analysis of Polymeric Piezoelectric Nanoplate Reinforced by CNT Using Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka Approach

In this article, the nonlocal biaxial buckling load and bending analysis of polymeric piezoelectric nanoplate reinforced by carbon nanotube (CNT) considering the surface stress effect is presented. This plate is subjected to electro-magneto-mechanical loadings. Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach is used for defining the piezoelectric nanoplate material properties. Navier’s type solution is employed t...

Echocardiographic assessment of aortic elastic properties with automated border detection in an ICU: in vivo application of the arctangent Langewouters model.

We studied whether combined pressure and transesophageal ultrasound monitoring is feasible in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting for global cardiovascular hemodynamic monitoring [systemic vascular resistance (SVR) and total arterial compliance (C(PPM))] and direct estimation of local ascending and descending aortic mechanical properties, i.e., distensibility and compliance coefficients (DC a...

Investigation on the Regional Loss Factor and Its Anisotropy for Aortic Aneurysms

An aortic aneurysm is a lethal arterial disease that mainly occurs in the thoracic and abdominal regions of the aorta. Thoracic aortic aneurysms are prevalent in the root/ascending parts of the aorta and can lead to aortic rupture resulting in the sudden death of patients. Understanding the biomechanical and histopathological changes associated with ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (ATAAs), ...
